Lingerie retailer, Bravissimo, has underpinned its international omni-channel capabilities and enhanced customer experience with a new e-commerce platform in conjunction with Black Pepper Software, a leading agile software development provider.
Founded as a mail order company in 1995 by entrepreneur, Sarah Tremellen, and her friend following their own frustrating experiences trying to find pretty bras that fit them, Bravissimo is now a multi-channel retailer with a turnover of £50m, operating through its e-commerce platform and a store estate of 26 UK stores.
With e-commerce accounting for 40% of the company’s turnover, Bravissimo sought to completely re-design its website platform to provide better service to its omni-channel customers with greater user experience (UX) and responsiveness to effectively handle peak seasonal traffic fluctuations. The new site also needed to be scalable for international markets, to support Bravissimo’s growth aspirations.
Bravissimo was also keen to enhance its own expertise in test-driven agile software practices in order to benefit from software development reliability and efficiency gains.
Deploying a team to work alongside Bravissimo’s in-house team, Black Pepper supported the lingerie retailer in the delivery of their completely re-architected web platform, using the modern JavaScript/React/Node.js stack and a microservice architecture, which also integrated with a new bespoke headless CMS system.
The new scalable platform not only delivered enhance customer experience, it also allowed Bravissimo to meet the needs of national and international customers.
Mike Tremellen, director at Bravissimo, said: “The Black Pepper team are conscientious, professional and clearly know technology. Teaching our internal team how to use an agile test based software development approach added real value to us internally.”
Josie Bryne, retail account director at Black Pepper Software, commented: “It has been a pleasure to assist a forward-thinking retailer, such as Bravissimo, with such an important strategic delivery. Working with their development teams has enabled skills and knowledge to transfer across both organisations and this domain expertise will help Black Pepper to service Bravissimo’s needs on future projects.”
Looking ahead, Bravissimo is now planning to work with Black Pepper Software on its next digital transformation project, which involves refining and redeveloping their legacy internal returns system utilising AngularJS, the JavaScript-based open-source front-end web application framework.
