Curvy Kate is coming to Plymouth to find a new model - must have curves

A lingerie brand is on the hunt for its next model but size zero women need not apply.

D-K cup lingerie brand, Curvy Kate is scouring the country to find beautiful yet curvy women of all shapes and sizes to represent its lingerie wear and Plymouth is one the list of venues in the national search.

Plymouth students are organising a special Curvy Kate’s Star in a Bra party to ensure curvy South West women are in for a chance to be the company’s next ambassador.

In conjunction with Breast Cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!, the Star in a Bra party will promote the lingerie brand’s search for their next curvy model, while also raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and encouraging party-goers to get to know their boobs.

The Plymouth University party is one of many organised around the country and it’s only for ladies. So chaps, you will be asked to stay away. There will be plenty of see bra fittings, bargain lingerie sets and £1 briefs as well as special drink offers, cupcakes and competitions and a lot of boob chat.

Star in a Bra title holder, Lotte Williams said: “Winning the competition meant so much to me.

“I want to help inspire women of all ages to be confident in the skin they’re in and to change the way body image is represented in the media.

“Why should we listen to someone telling us what the ‘perfect body’ is? We need to revolutionise the way the world sees ‘the perfect woman’ and I think Curvy Kate is the brand that will help us get there.”

The annual Star in a Bra competition launched in 2009 and champions the use of customer role models and promotes a positive approach to body image, which all women can relate to.

All sizes, ages, shapes and heights are encouraged to enter as the brand continues to celebrate every body. The winner will go on to model with Curvy Kate in their latest campaigns and take away a modelling contract with top agency, Bridge models.

Curvy Kate’s marketing manager Hannah Isichei said the brand had always made use of ‘normal’ women and not professional models to promote its lingerie in a bid to change people’s minds of what a perfect body is.

She said: “As a brand we have never worked with professional models and over the years have built up an army of body-loving, public ambassadors – ready to shake up the notion of the ‘norm’. Star in a Bra is open to all, no restrictions and no experience necessary – if you can wear our bras – you’re in.”

Sinéad Molloy CoppaFeel! Uni Boob Team manager said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Curvy Kate in a bid to get the bra-wearing public of great Britain checking their boobs.”

The entry stage launches on March 1 on www.starinabra.com, where women interested can find further details and upload their photos plus reason why they want to be the next ‘Star in a Bra’.

The CoppaFeel! University boob teams will be backing the curve-search across the country; participating universities include London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Sheffield and Plymouth.

The Plymouth University D plus lingerie brand Curvy Kate’s Star in a Bra party is due to take place on Thursday 10 March. For more information visit www.starinabra.com
