La Perla RTW Fall 2016 Collection

La Perla’s creative director Pedro Lourenço unveiled his first collection for the Italian brand as it seeks to expand its lingerie, sleepwear, loungewear and accessories collections for both women and men.

“We call it La Perla’s extended intimacy,” said the young Brazilian designer at the label’s presentation, held at the frescoed Società del Giardino, Milan’s luxury gentlemen’s club, in the Sala d’Oro Neo-classical space. A modern, digital installation served as a backdrop for the models.

“We see this trend of pajamas and innerwear worn outside today and La Perla has this know-how,” said Lourenço, who praised and referenced the late founder Ada Masotti’s “visionary” intuition in studying how fashion designers work. Cases in point: the silk and tulle-embroidered white and black skirt with degrade sequins and laser cuts with transparent effects, and a cropped top with a brassiere construction. Curvaceous shapes, inspired by architect Oscar Niemeyer, contrasted with graphic cuts. Ankle-strap shoes, sun hats, sterling silver jewelry, calfskin belts, and bags in leather or canvas complete the collection, as part of La Perla’s moves to grow into a lifestyle brand.
