It’s safe to say Penélope Cruz knows lingerie, as co-designer of L’Agent by Agent Provocateur along with sister Mónica Cruz and creative director of Agent Provocateur and L’Agent by Agent Provocateur, Sarah Shotton, Cruz is at the forefront of all things lingerie so when L’Agent by Agent Provocateur announced they were opening their first Australian store in Melbourne’s St Collins Lane we jumped at the chance to chat underwear with the actress.
What part do you most enjoy about designing for L’Agent?
“It is a constant learning process, and it’s so great working alongside Sarah [Shotton] she’s so rock ‘n’ roll and so much fun to work with. Monica and I learn so much from her. It’s also amazing to collaborate with my sister too; we have very similar taste in colours and fabrics.”
What tips do you have for wearing lingerie outside the bedroom?
“I personally like to keep it simple, a clean white shirt slightly unbuttoned with jeans over one of our bodies like Reia, so you can see just a hint of it. That to me is sexy but not too much.”
What advice do you have for someone wanting to buy lingerie for their significant other?
“This is so hard! Every woman is different so it really depends on how well you know them; I feel like in this collection there is something for everyone, from sportier pieces to the more dramatic. If you aren’t sure I would suggest to play it safe and opt for a slip or a gown.”
Talk us through the inspiration behind the latest collection.
“My sister Monica and I love to tell a story with the collections, this season it’s all about rock ‘n’ roll, and a woman’s rebellious nature. We introduced new fabrics this season like fishnet effect lace or with a hint of lurex which looks so modern. Each season just keeps getting better and better.”
What is the biggest misconception you find women have about lingerie?
“Our lingerie is comfortable but still super sexy. You definitely don’t have to compromise comfort for sex appeal.”
