Penelope Cruz, whom you probably know as a critically acclaimed actress, also happens to moonlights as a lingerie designer because it just makes sense. She and sister Monica have revealed their latest collection with L’Agent by Agent Provocateur (created along with Agent Provocateur Creative Director Sarah Shotton), and inspiration comes courtesy of rock and roll and women who don’t aspire to date the bad boy as much as run right alongside him.
“Being an actress I’m drawn to this imaginative storytelling part of designing. I always like thinking of a scenario and a theme for the collection,” she mused. A longline bra just introduced to the range ($92; lagentbyap.com) and a sleekly sexy bodysuit make Cruz think of ’40s and ’50s bombshells, including one very specific stunner. “Sophia Loren is a constant source of inspiration for our collections. She personifies sexiness in a woman and is a true living icon.”
For a woman who could easily have crooked her pinky finger and inked a deal with any lingerie brand on the planet, the choice to go with Agent Provocateur came down to shade appeal. “I really love all the bright colors. It’s what drew me and my sister to Agent Provocateur—the risky vibrant colors. I like that with this brand we can open people’s mind to dare to be a bit more brave with their lingerie.”
