Etam logo - Etam lingerie brand history

Etam Développement is a French lingerie company. It was founded in 1916 by Max Lindemann. The French and British Etam clothing chains were separate companies until the French company bought the British one for £97m in 1997.

In June 2011, the French company re-launched into the UK.

Alix Bancourt, the French designer, was worked with them. Natalia Vodianova, the Russian model, has designed lingerie for them.

The ETAM name is coming from the word “etamine”, a material which was used a lot in his clothing manufacture.

From 1920, the brand became international (England, France, Netherlands or Argentina for example) thanks to some local partnerships. The first Etam shop in France was open in 1928, at the 376, Saint Honore Street.

The group flagship called « La cité de la femme » in Paris has been closed in 2012 due to expensive rent. It was a 4000m² megastore divided in 8 floors in which each brands of the group were present since 2001. However the group opened a Etam lingerie flagship (700m²) in the same street few month later.

It is a French company since 1963, when Setamile store brands (owned by Milchior family) decided to merge with Etam. Pierre Milchior was placed at the head of the company.

Nowadays, Etam still belongs to Etam Developpement group which also owns 1,2,3 and Undiz.
